Let’s practice Katakana! In this lesson, I will introduce 10 Katakana words that you will often see and hear while shopping. We will also learn a very useful phrase at the end of the video.
カタカナの練習（れんしゅう）をしましょう！ 今回（こんかい）は、買（か）い物（もの）をするときに 見（み）たり 聞（き）いたりする カタカナの言葉（ことば）を 10個（こ）紹介（しょうかい）します。動画（どうが）の 最後（さいご）に 便利（べんり）なフレーズも 勉強（べんきょう）できます。

💡 How to Study / 学習（がくしゅう）の仕方（かた）
1. Listen and Repeat – 聞（き）いて、繰（く）り返（かえ）す
Listen to the pronunciation and repeat after me. These words are based on English, but the pronunciation in Katakana is different. Try to mimic my voice and practice!
発音（はつおん）を聞（き）いて、私（わたし）のあとに 続（つづ）いて 発音（はつおん）してください。英語（えいご）をもとに カタカナにした言葉（ことば）ですが、英語（えいご）と 発音（はつおん）が 違（ちが）いますから、私（わたし）の発音（はつおん）を 真似（まね）して 練習（れんしゅう）しましょう。
2. Learn a Useful Phrase – 便利（べんり）なフレーズを覚（おぼ）える
At the end of the video, we will study the phrase “Toilet wa doko desu ka?” (Where is the bathroom?). I believe this is a phrase you will definitely use while staying in Japan! It’s reassuring to know this phrase when you can’t find a “Toilet” sign.
動画（どうが）の最後（さいご）で 「トイレ どこですか？」という フレーズを 勉強（べんきょう）します。買（か）い物（もの）だけでなく、日本（にほん）にいる間（あいだ）は 必（かなら）ず使（つか）うフレーズだと思（おも）います。「Toilet」という表示（ひょうじ）が見（み）つからないとき、このフレーズを知（し）っていると安心（あんしん）ですね！

In Japanese, many English words are shortened when written in Katakana. Isn’t it interesting?!
日本語（にほんご）では、英語（えいご）の言葉（ことば）が短（みじか）く省略（しょうりゃく）されて カタカナになることが よくあります。 おもしろいですよね？！
- Convenience store → Konbini (コンビニ)
- Supermarket → Suupaa (スーパー)
- Cash register → Reji (レジ)
