Key Words:
- いつも (itsumo) = usually / always
- 今日 (kyou) = today
- 牛乳 (gyuunyuu) = milk
First, let’s understand the question clearly.
The question was:
今日、牛乳は1本いくらになりますか。
(Kyou, gyuunyuu wa ippon ikura ni narimasu ka?)
How much will a bottle of milk be today?
Point
Before the story starts, get ready to focus on two key words:
「今日」 (kyou) and 「牛乳」 (gyuunyuu)!
The shopkeeper said:
牛乳1本、いつもは250円ですが、今日は 198円、198円 です。
(Gyuunyuu ippon, itsumo wa nihyaku gojuu en desu ga, kyou wa hyaku jyuu hachi en, hyaku jyuu hachi en desu.)
A bottle of milk is usually 250 yen, but today it is 198 yen, 198 yen!
Therefore, the answer is 「198円」 (Hyakujyuuhachien / 198 yen).
Tip：
Of course, catching every word is great. But for listening tests, the skill to focus only on the information you need is much more important! Don’t get confused by other numbers like “usually 250 yen” or the price of the bento box.
